The Earth Alliance HistoryEA began to search the stars and spread out with colonies until we met the Minbari. A fleet was sent to observe the Minbari and see how they operate. At the time Dukhat and the grey council were gathering supplies before their journey to Za'ha'dum. The Minbari have had little experience with other races and were new at the prospect. So when the two races met, all hell broke out. Humans soon went to war with the Minbari and we were losing the war considerably. With hardley no resistance the minbari would win the war and would soon reach earth. The Minbari had come to the end and finally reached Earth with nothing left except 20,000 Earth ships. The minbari had the power to wipe us of the Earth but for some reason surrendered. History:1960's The first probes were sent into space. The manned spaceflight programme culminated in Neil Armstrong becoming the first man to set foot upon the surface of the moon.1980's The first re-usable spaceship (Space Shuttle) built.1997 The first official acknowledgement of life on other planets was announced, bringing forward manned flights to Mars and the building of space stations and moon bases.1999 The United States President, Bill Clinton, forms the President's commission On The Future.2018 The foundation is laid for the first lunar colony in the sea of tranquility.2161 Psi-Corps is created.2075-2170 A period of exploration and colonisation within our own system and all the countries in the world form together to make Earth Central.2184 First contact is made with the Centauri. The human races leaps forward 200 yrs with the technology given by the Centauri and hyperspace technology is given. Omega-x's - These are the most advanced among the EA. The Omega-x uses shadow armour and weaponary to assist it.

EARTH ALLIANCE WEAPONS:

WEAPONS OF THE EARTH ALLIANCE:

The weapons of the Earth Alliance, as with all the other races, are vast and numerous. Many of the weapons currently being used on Earth Alliance starships are based on Centauri technology. These weapons were purchased from the Narns and helped the Earth Alliance leap hundreds of years ahead of the weapons they had been developing on their own. Listed below are the standard weapons one would see in use on a typical Earth Alliance fighter and capital ship.


COPELAND WEAPON CORP. PULSE DISCHARGE CANNON

The Earthforce Pulse Discharge cannon is the primary weapon for all Earth Alliance fighter craft. Sturdy and powerful, this pulsed plasma weapon fires several consecutive bursts of energized plasma. Using a rotating cylinder, along the same conceptual design as a gattling gun, energized plasma is injected into the firing chamber of the Pulse Discharge cannon. An electrical discharge then forces the plasma out of the fighter. Older models of this weapon, like on the SA23-E Arrora, can only fire four burst per discharge. Newer version, such as those seen in use on the SA26 Thunderbolt can fire a steady, continues stream of plasma fire.


COPELAND WEAPON CORP. PLASMA CANNON

One of the most powerful weapons of the Earth Alliance, the Copeland Plasma Cannon has been the primary heavy plasma weapon since the Dilgar Invasion. Redesigned and modified using Centauri weapon technology purchased from the Narn back during the Earth/Minbari war, the latest version of this weapon is significantly more powerful.


This type of weapon fires super charged bursts energized plasma. Upon impact with a target, they will explode against and burn through the hull of an enemy ship. They can only fire one massive energy burst before re-charging, but inflict a great deal of damage. This weapons key draw back is it's short range.


COPELAND WEAPON CORP. PULSE CANNON

The standard plasma weapon of all Earthforce capital ships is the Copeland Weapon Corp. Pulse Cannon. The Pulse Cannons fires several consecutive bolts of super-charged plasma at a pre-defined target. On average each individual energy bolt is not as powerful as those fired by a standard Plasma Cannon, but all the energy together is significantly more powerful. Another distinct advantage of the Pulse Cannon is the higher probability of this weapon making contact with a target. This weapon also has a significantly greater range than a normal Plasma Cannon and a much higher recharge rate.


THORNTON TECHNOLOGIES X-RAY PARTICLE LASER:

The Thornton Tech. X-Ray Particle Laser is based off of the Centauri "Battle Laser" using technology purchased from the Narns, back during the Earth/Minbari war. Modified with a bit of human ingenuity, the Particle Laser still functions along the same lines as a normal Battle Laser.


Essentially, the X-Ray Particle Laser combines the piercing power of a heavy particle stream with the raking/cutting power of a focused light beam. This makes it significantly more effective for long ranges. The Particle Lasers used by Earthforce have more punch than those used by the Centauri, but like the Narn version this extra punch comes with a price, namely a longer recharge time. (NOTE: It is the combination of the Particle beam and the X-Ray laser that give the weapon it's color, which can very depending on what kind of matter was used in the particle stream.)


FUSION MISSILE/BOMB

Fusion missiles and/or bombs are the Earth Alliance's nuclear weapon of choice. As Fusion bombs do not produce the massive radiation of fission weapons, like the plutonium nuclear bombs of the 20th century, the Fusion bomb is ideally suited for use against enemy targets, both in space and on the ground.


The lack of residual radiation does not inflict long term radioactive damage to the environment, thus negating a starship's need to maneuver around nuclear hot-spots in space combat. When used in orbital bombardments the Fusion bomb's lack of high residual radiation allows Marine forces to land and seize territory quickly, without fear of risking one's life to the woes of terminal radiation sickness.


Like nuclear devices, Fusion weapons vary in power depending on the size of its warhead. On average, most fusion missiles have a destructive yield of 20 megatons or greater. Fusion missiles are the Earth Alliance's projectile weapon of choice, as it is cheap to build and safer to maintain than either Thermal Nuclear weapons or anti-mater weapons.


EARTH ALLIANCE DEFENSE GRID & INTERCEPTORS

EA ships have a three tear defense system created during the Earth/Minbari war. This defense system, what we refer to as the "Defense Grid", consists of "Interceptors", "Defense Projectors" and "Screens", are provided by the following:

a.) Plasma webs
b.) EM discharges
c.) EM dispersion field.

PLASMA WEBS: Fired from the gun-ports, in order to intercept incoming fire, EA Starships fire a web like field of zero-charge plasma called Interceptors. When another energy weapon hits this field, the plasma absorbs energy from the incoming weapon. Most effective against Pulse Cannon fire, this web can and does absorb some energy from beam weapons like lasers.
EM DISCHARGES: Designed specifically to reduce the effectiveness of beam weapons, EA ships direct a powerful Electromagnetic discharge in the path of lasers and other beam weapons. This is known as a Defense Projector. When the laser makes contact with the EM Discharge field, it looses it's natural EM containment field and becomes subject to the Inverse Square law. Essentially, the laser goes from being like a cutting beam, to more like a burst from a flashlight. While there is little to no energy loss, the beam weapon strikes a larger surface area of a target's hull, reducing its effectiveness.
EM DISPERSION FIELD: Should a weapon successfully pass through the first two defenses, the ship produces a complex Electromagnetic field around the hull, some times referred to as a "screen." This system can reduce the effectiveness of both plasma and laser weapons, as it causes said weapons to loose magnetic containment prior to impact.
So, there you have your three tear defense system. Offered as proof of this defense system being used, note the battle between the Alexander and the Clark's Town in "Severed Dreams." When the Clark's Town fired her lasers at the Alexander, striking her amidships, it did not cut or pierce the hull. Instead it dispersed upon impact. The result was a large burn scar on the rotating section, but NOT a major hull breech.
Here is how an Omega's defenses break down against the two most popular weapons:
LASERS/PARTICLE BEAMS:
Given warning from the sensors by observing enemy gun turrets, the crew has enough time to fire an electromagnetic discharge towards and incoming beam as it fires, reducing it's effectiveness. When a laser beam and electromagnetic discharge meet, the electromagnetic burst disrupts the laser beam and the laser's natural EM containment field is disrupted or collapses all together, making the laser discharge now subject to the "Inverse Square law."
If this system proves unsuccessful the Omega's also projects a constant electromagnetic field around the ship, i.e. the "EM Dispersion Field", to reduce the effectiveness of beam weapons that slip through. AGAIN, this was seen when the Alexander took a hit from the Clark's Town - after impact you can clearly see that the laser scorched a large surface of the rotating section... something that would not have happened, if not for ship's EM Dispersion Field hadn't scattered the blast across the hull. If not for these defense systems I've mentioned, the Clark's Town's blast would have burned right into the hull.
PLASMA:
The two aforementioned systems work best against these kinds of weapons, as a plasma bolt can only move at 70,000 to 120,000 kph. This gives the interceptors a greater amount of time with which to intercept incoming fire. This is also why the zero charge plasma bolt is also used against these types of weapons, as they can intercept and absorb a great deal of the energy from the enemy's fire.
